A cured Pokémon cannot spread Pokérus or contract it again, but will continue to receive the boost to its EV gain. If an infected Pokémon is left in the player's party, the Pokérus infection will eventually wear off and the Pokémon will then be considered "cured". It is also possible to infect eggs in this manner, allowing them to hatch with an active Pokérus infection. During this time, it is considered to be an "active" infection. A Pokémon with active Pokérus that is in the player's party can spread the virus to adjacent party Pokémon after a battle it is not necessary for the infected Pokémon to take place in the battle for this to occur, although it may take multiple battles for Pokérus to spread. When a Pokémon is first infected with Pokérus, it will show a PKRS icon on its summary page, similar to a status effect such as paralysis or sleep. It has a 1 in 21845 chance of being on a wild Pokémon, although it can be found in the Pokémon Uranium community far more readily due to Mystery Gifts released with Pokérus and trading of infected Pokémon. Pokérus is a beneficial virus that can infect a Pokémon, boosting its ability to gain EVs.
